Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) is a real-world research service supporting retrospective and prospective public health and clinical studies. CPRD is jointly sponsored by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the National Institute for Health Research, as part of the Department of Health and Social Care.

CPRD collects de-identified patient data from a network of GP practices across the UK. Primary care data are linked to a range of other health related data to provide a longitudinal, representative UK population health dataset.

CPRD data are used worldwide by regulators, academics and industry researchers, resulting in more than 2,300 peer-reviewed publications.

Datasets

The CPRD database holds anonymised data on more than 40 million patients, including 13 million currently registered patients. These primary care health records from approximately 20% of the UK population are updated every day.

CPRD data can be routinely linked to 17 secondary care and other health and area-based datasets.
