The Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC) is an independent, not-for-profit, scientific organisation, established in 1994, that facilitates improvements in the structure, process, outcomes, and experiences of critical care – for patients and for those who care for them. Both nationally and internationally, ICNARC manages a broad programme of clinical audit and clinical/health services research, the latter co-ordinated within its UK Clinical Research Collaboration-registered Clinical Trials Unit. ICNARC databases serve as a resource for multiple studies on the epidemiology of critical illness and inform practice and policy on the provision, service delivery and organisation of critical care, most recently playing a key role in providing information to support the UK response to the global pandemic of COVID-19
