The ‘Gateway’ will act as a one-stop-shop destination to discover, access, manage and drive the ethical and safe use of data, exploiting cutting-edge analytics and big data technologies to improve health outcomes for people across the UK.

The Gateway will build on infrastructure and best practices that already exist in the UK, working in partnership to evolve existing assets and commercial agreements. Where new solutions are needed, we will be going to market for existing ‘best of breed’ solutions and will only custom develop where a suitable product or application does not already exist.

Phase 1 of the Innovation Gateway is focused on developing a functional approach (Minimum Viable Product or MVP) to:

  • The Gateway Portal – MVP, requiring design and development of the front-end user experience, allowing researchers and innovators to easily search and identify relevant datasets.
  • A Metadata Catalogue, which will provide the underlying functionality to support the Gateway portal, and which will be developed through a separate process.
  • Alliance data modelling and metadata loading, which will provide the tooling and resource to enable Alliance members to undertake the necessary data modelling and metadata loading processes to enable both high value and volume datasets to be made available by Alliance members.
