The Stewardship principle recognises the professional role of data stewards in balancing stakeholder interests, public involvement, data utility and social acceptability. Spanning the research cycle, stewardship requires specialist expertise and strong infrastructure oversight. The ambition is to formalise the profession through development pathways, training, capacity building and regulatory accountability.
